There are many ways to find Wi-Fi passwords
- Using router setting.
- Using your Windows setting.
- Using CMD on your PC.
Each of them deserves its own article. So, visit them in your want to learn more about the specific method.
In this article, we are going to use a Command prompt (CMD) to find a Wi-Fi password. You don’t need to download anything to get with this Method. To learn more keep reading!
How to find the Wi-Fi password using CMD
Firstly – Press Win + R to open run box and type CMD and hit enter.
Press win + R to open the run box and type CMD and then hit enter.
OR
Go to the search box and search for CMD or Command prompt. Then click on it to run it.
Note
(In order to have access to the wlan commands you don’t need to have administrator authority. So, there is no need to run it as an administrator)
Secondly – ( netsh wlan show profile )
Type the command ( netsh wlan show profile ) and hit enter. You will have a list of all the networks that you had access to or you have access of in your PC.
Thirdly – ( netsh wlan show profile Name of wireless network )
Type the same command you used before ( netsh wlan show profile ) but this time copy the name of the wireless network that you want to have access to and paste it at the end of the command and hit enter. ( netsh wlan show profile + Name of wireless network )
Note
(In Windows usually for copying we press the combination of control + c but in the command prompt, it doesn’t work. In the command prompt, you need to select the word / phrase / command / name and right-click on it to copy. If the highlight is gone after you click then it means that it is copied. and after pasting, we use the same control + V as usual)
Now, you have access to the wireless network and details of the wireless network.
Next. Scroll down and check if the security key is expressed for the wireless network. If it’s head the security key then you will see it as Security key : Present
Fourthly – ( netsh wlan show profile Name of wireless network key =clear )
Type the command ( netsh wlan show profile + Name of wireless network ) and this time add the command ( key =clear )and then hit enter. ( netsh wlan show profile + Name of wireless network key =clear )
Now you have access to the network and if you Scroll down you will see that under the security : present, you will see written Key Content : the actual password
How to Export the password of the Wi-Fi
You can now save it in your clipboard or save it in your notepad. You can also save it on a third-party app or program.
However, the best way to export it is using the cmd command. Under you will see how.
Note
(To export the information about the WIFI network you need to run cmd as an administrator)
Firstly – ( netsh wlan export profile )
Type the command ( netsh wlan show profile ) and hit enter. You will have a list of all the networks that you had access to or you have access of in your PC.
Secondly – ( netsh wlan export profile Name of Wi-Fi folder=c:\ key=clear )
The (netsh wlan show profile) is to show you the list of accessed internet connections. The (Name of Wi-Fi) code is variable, you may type whatever the name of your wireless connection is. The (folder=c:\) is also a variable you can save it where ever you want to save it. The (key=clear) command is to show the password of the wireless connection.
By exporting the WIFI passwords you can skip the whole process of typing different commands.
Note
Make sure that the exporting file is successful.
How to Locate the Wi-fi Network Information
Now, You can access the WIFI network information just by going to the place you saved it. Which is in my case the C:\ drive and the name of the wireless interface is TP-LINK_FCDDB8. So:
Firstly, Go to your file explorer and locate to the c:\ drive on this PC.
As you know that I saved my wifi password in C:\ drive you save it wherever you want.
Secondly, When you open C:\ drive you will see an XML file of the wifi open it.
When you open C:\ drive you will see it right away at the bottom in the form of an XML file named by the name of the WIFI.
Finally, when you open the XML file of the WIFI you will find the password of the wifi between two key material tags
